Atos Origin signs 5 year deal on German health card

Atos Origin has signed a new five-year contract with German health IT agency Gesellschaft für Telematikanwendungen der Gesundheitskarte mbH (gematik) for the implementation of the directory service for the German electronic health card project.
The firm will be responsible for the design and implementation of the Directory Service in the IT infrastructure and the deal extends a contract gematik first signed with Atos in 2007.
Atos will have responsibility for organisation of the service rights in the eHealth card central IT network.
The electronic health card will extensively simplify the administration of medical data in Germany, thus reducing costs in the healthcare system. It enables a simple and secure exchange of important data between insured persons, doctors, pharmacies and insurance companies.
"This is an additional large step along the way to the electronic health card in Germany", said Peter ‘t Jong, CEO of Atos Origin in Germany and Central Europe.
"We want to grow in the health and public sector and the gematik contract fits in this strategy," he added.
The deal extends from previous work Atos Origin have done with Gematik on the e-health card project.
Atos also designed and implemented the Time Service, which synchronises the time settings of all central and distributed hardware and software components, and the Name Service, which handles the conversion of domain names to IP addresses so that the assignment of a name to a storage location will be possible.
