Medical imaging specialist Barco has announced a new customer reference site at the Dienst Medische Beeldvorming.

This is the medical imaging department serving the general hospital group AZ Groeninge in Kortrijk, Belgium – which is a “stone’s throw” from Barco’s headquarters and a long-standing Barco customer.

As a global reference site, the Dienst Medische Beeldvorming has been equipped with the latest in diagnostic display technology, including the first 6 megapixel colour display system for diagnostic imaging.

Clinicians will be able to use the Coronis Fusion 6MP DL display system in reading rooms to read x-rays, CT, MRI, PET-CT and other scans.

The department has also rolled out Barco’s MediCal QAWeb solution for calibration, quality assurance and asset management.

“By deploying the very latest imaging technology, our hospital is able to further advance its healthcare services and provide patients with the best possible care,” said Jan Deleu, chief executive of the AZ Groeninge Hospital, which is one of the largest in Belgium with four sites and 1,100 beds.

Carl Peeters, Barco president of monitoring, control and medical, said the advantages for the company were access to the hospital’s clinical community.

“[This] will allow us to analyse the use of medical displays in their natural, clinical habitat and inspire us to create new products that further enhance productivity, clinical workflow and diagnosis,” he said.

“It will also give physicians and clinical professionals from other hospitals a chance to come and see our imaging products in operation in a real world, high volume clinical practice.”
