Simon Bolton and Sonia Patel to join Digital Health Summer Schools 2022

Two senior national CIOs will be unpacking the national agenda of levelling-up, convergence, digital maturity and data at Digital Health Summer Schools 2022.

Simon Bolton, the current CEO at NHS Digital and interim CIO at NHS England and Improvement, will be our day one CIO keynote and continues the tradition of NHS Digital CEOs joining Summer Schools, an event which is exclusively available for members of Digital Health Networks.

Then on day two we are delighted to welcome back Summer Schools regular, Sonia Patel, in her new role as system CIO and director of levelling up within the NHS Transformation Directorate at NHS England and Improvement,

They will also be joined by former Digital Health Award winner and CEO of Digital Health and Care Wales, Helen Thomas, who will discuss running digital eco-systems.

Now in it’s ninth-year, Digital Health’s Summer Schools 2022 is a two-day residential event dedicated to local NHS IT leaders, focused on CCIOs, CIOs and CNIOs, plus future digital leaders. The event will explore the evolving challenges of being an effective digital leader in the NHS and the different dimensions of leadership roles. The event will focus on the networks, future leaders, nursing, diversity and equality and emerging leadership in the ICS space.

Previous highlights have included the launch of the successful Shuri Network in 2019. The network aims to support and encourage women of black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds in digital health roles. Dr Shera Chok founded the network after attending Summer Schools in 2018 and realising there were very few women of BME background working in the audience.

Then in 2021, consultant breast surgeon Liz O’Riordan spoke to the virtual Summer School audience about her experiences of cancer and how technology helped. O’Riordan’s powerful speech at was a reminder that technology isn’t just a tool to benefit clinicians, it’s also a tool to empower patients.

The 2022 edition of Summer Schools is being held on 15 and 16 July at the University of York.
