Dudley Chooses Siemens for PACS

  • 11 February 2003

Siemens Medical Solutions have been awarded the contract to provide the latest imaging and picture archiving and communications system (PACS) technology for Dudley Hospital NHS Trust’s new PFI-build hospital currently under construction.

Siemens Healthcare Services is the managed technology service provider for the 40-year PFI contract. Acting on behalf of the trust the company managed an open tender process for imaging and PACS systems.

The open tender was carried out in close partnership with trust managers and clinicians, who were closely involved in reviewing the systems on offer from major manufacturers. Having completed its detailed evaluation the trust selected the system offered by Siemens Medical Solutions.

Siemens will supply a fully integrated package covering imaging equipment and a starter system for PACS, all utilising its Syngo universal user interface which provides the same interface for all imaging modalities and workstations.

The imaging and PACS systems will seamlessly integrate with Dudley Hospital NHS Trust’s new Soarian EPR system, being supplied by Siemens Medical Solutions. Soarian is said to provide a completely new model for EPR that merges medical and information technology.

Peter Harrison, Managing Director of Siemens Health Services, stated, “It is important for Siemens Healthcare Services to be seen to acting in a neutral capacity when involved in such negotiations. However, it is rewarding when customers recognise the benefits of the Siemens brand and the potential of a truly integrated infrastructure meeting the requirements of a digital hospital of the future.”
