Danish firm Medical Insight has released a new version of its EasyViz product which provides remote access to electronic medical record (EMR) and diagnostic imaging systems.
According to Medical Insight, the remote access product can provide entry to Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) and EMR systems “from any side of the world.”
The system is said to extend the reach of any PACS or EMR system by providing fast access to images and tools on any PC, from anywhere outside a healthcare facility. EasyViz is based on adaptive streaming technology and server-side computing.
Andy Dobbs, founder and Business Development Manager at Medical Insight, said: “Our core technology could be used to address a significant hurdle faced by many healthcare organisations – namely, the challenge of giving access to DICOM quality images and analysis tools to clinical users outside the radiology department.”
According to Medical Insight, EasyViz offers a set of features and functions that clinical users require in a full-featured image viewer.
The EasyViz server performs all necessary processing tasks, and no image data is transferred to the client devices – instead, an adaptive streaming method is used to give access to the data and tools that reside on the server.
“Adaptive streaming gives EasyViz a number of distinct advantages,” said Dobbs. The product uses built-in SSL/TSL encryption in the connection between clients and servers and using streaming technology optimises the use of available bandwidth.
EasyViz users are authenticated via existing mechanisms such as Active Directory, Clinical Context Object Workgroup or Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.
“We wanted a system that simply hooks up to existing databases and systems, and is usable without any changes to workflows or processes,” said Dobbs.
“EasyViz generates work-lists on-the-fly in response to profile settings users have established,” he added.
