One of the largest health insurance companies in Germany, Techniker Krankenkasse (TK), has rolled out a digital mailroom platform to handle the 25m incoming mail items that it receives each year.

The TK, which insures more than 7.2m people, has deployed Foxray’s xbound digital mailroom platform to deal with the 200,000 pages of direct debit slips, registrations, de-registrations, changes of address and important correspondence from hospitals and doctors that it receives every day.

The TK says it expects the solution to significantly increase the degree of automation in handling and processing such varied documents, which it hopes will improve customer service and cut costs.

The xbound platform has a multi-channel input capability which allows paper mail faxes and emails from Lotus Notes to be integrated into the mailroom process.

Ralf Goebel, chief technical officer at Foxray, explained: “Foxray xbound provides TK with a fully integrated digital mailroom solution allowing all incoming mail, paper and electronic, as well as backend systems to be integrated via a standard interface.”

The platform is made up of a three level structure based on service orientated architecture. Products from external partners are already integrated so that customer interfaces can be programmed on the platform if necessary.

It also has analysis functions, which allow the entire production process to be monitered enabling efficient production management, reporting and performance analysis.

The authentication of the digitalised documents are ensured by a digital signature solution which is inetgerated in xbound,

The solution is already being used at four scanning centres around Germany and will be deployed at seven more locations by the end of 2009.
