A workgroup on intelligent buildings and assistive home technology will be held in Belgium at the end of September.

The workshop will take place in two different venues across Belgium, in Bruges on the 24 and in Gits on the 25 September 2009.

The workshop will be run by the CIB W098 workgroup for Intelligent and Responsive Buildings, the Belgian Centre for Domotics and Immotics which focuses on the use of IT in buildings, and the Innovation Centre in Housing for Adapted Movement.

The workshop is aimed at construction industry professionals including engineers, architects and builders and the healthcare industry as well as health and social care organisations.

The first day of the workshop will focus on intelligence in assisted homes, with a key note presentation on “state of the art ambient assisted living” by Ad Van Berlo, director of Smart Homes in the Netherlands.

Other speeches will address the use of robotics in aiding the elderly and innovative technologies, such as preventative telecare solutions, for alarming, activity monitoring, sleep analysis and wandering detection.

The second day will take a closer look at telehealth and telecare and will outline the development and challenges for telecare services in the UK as well as a lessons to date presentation on England’s Whole System Demonstrator Programme.

Maria Siambekos, global marketing manager of GE Healthcare will also outline GE’s role in telecare.

The European Health Telematics Association, International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth and CIBSE Intelligent Buildings Group will be supporting the event.
