iSoft goes live with results reporting in Ireland

  • 7 September 2006

iSoft have announced that it is rolling out its iPM results reporting module across all sites in the Bon Secours private hospital group in Ireland following a successful six-month pilot.

The pilot of the browser-based results access system took place across five wards in the 343-bed Cork site. Previously, test results were distributed twice daily by paper, but the update to iPM means that they are available online anywhere within the hospital, linked with the hospital’s laboratory system.

Ian Brennan, IT director at Bon Secours, said: "Being Windows-based, the system is highly intuitive, so everyone is finding it easy to use. Having all the patient information needed in one place is a huge asset."

"Having results in the same iPM screen as details like procedure history, care episodes and drugs dispensed makes it far easier to interpret results. If a nurse flags a result, then the consultant can login anywhere in the hospital, in their rooms or at home to investigate."

After the pilot, say iSoft, the reporting module is to be installed in the rest of the hospital in Cork as well as Bon Secours sites in Dublin, Galway and Tralee and a ‘care village’ near the original pilot hospital.

The hospital group aims to continue the computerisation of its systems and workflow. Cork will start piloting online ordering of tests and order communications within the next three months.

Bon Secours, which has been using iSoft’s iPM patient management system since 2002, is the largest private healthcare provider in Ireland and employs 1,900 staff.
