Log my Care has launched a new electronic medication administration record that is fully integrated with its app to help staff digitally manage medication rounds.
The care home software provider’s integrated electronic medication administration record (eMAR) means that medication records can be carefully managed online. By keeping digital records of medication rounds, care homes are able to reduce the risk of errors while it also makes it quicker and easier for care teams to access the information they need on their residents.
Sam Hussain, founder of Log my Care, said: “Adding medication management to our platform has been a goal from the start. It represents a huge jump in functionality to bring another set of tools for care teams, all under one roof. I’m delighted that our eMAR module is already supporting hundreds of providers to cut down on errors and manage the medicines process more efficiently.”
According to the Care Homes Use of Medicines Study (CHUMS) as many as two-thirds of care home residents are exposed to medication errors. Log my Care’s eMAR system aims to address some of the issues that can lead to potential errors, such as clear notes being accessible to all and accurate record keeping.
All medications in the eMAR system are linked to the NHS dm+d [dictionary of medicines and devices] database. This means medication can be quickly and easily selected from accurate and current lists.
Care managers have full oversight of medication management including medication rounds, patients’ medication history, stock levels and a full list of logs associated with a medication.
In addition, carers can easily create new medication records and keep track of previous ones. The system removes the need for recording duplicate information, saving staff time, and gives peace of mind that the information presented is clear and accurate.
Ian Bradford, owner of Greenview Residential Care Home in Romsey, Hampshire, said: “Log my Care’s eMAR system is a really good fit for us. It’s easy to use and means we can be much more efficient. It shows us that care was delivered in the right way and when; it means eliminating mistakes and at the same time making sure we have accountability for what we are doing.”
Louise Jones, registered manager of Bridle Lodge in Nottingham, added: “Our eMAR system has given me a better oversight of what’s going on in my home. Instead of having to go and check on the written MAR sheets in a service user’s bedroom, I can just click on my computer from anywhere and check that the medication has been administered. I would never go back to paper. I like this system; it makes life so much easier.”
