Community doctors at Telford and Wrekin PCT have signed a deal to use digital dictation technology from TalkingPoint to record their diagnoses whilst on the move.

The PCT is to offer a new mobile service to 15 of its community-based doctors within the community paediatric service.

As a result of the new service staff will be able to dictate their findings whilst out in the community rather than waiting until the end of the day to write up their diagnoses.

Special software has been installed onto the PCT network to enable the doctors to download their dictated notes and make them available to the 11 secretaries back at base.

According to the PCT the new service should both help the community doctors and enable secretaries to balance their work load more effectively.

Telford’s project co-ordinator, Sue Richards, said: “TalkingPoint’s digital dictation is about making our doctor’s workload more manageable. Being community based, digital dictation reporting will allow them to create a better work-life balance freeing the time they have previously had to spend in the evening dictating letters.”

Doctors at Telford and Wrekin asked for the system after seeing it in use in the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

The system is expected to go live later this month.
