NHS Connecting for Health is asking NHS IT training departments to complete an online questionnaire to support the business case for an NHS accreditation scheme for IT training departments.

CfH says it has been asked by strategic health authorities and other local NHS organisations to provide a voluntary, nationally funded accreditation scheme.

The IT agency says about 290 NHS training departments have responsibility for delivering training to thousands of NHS staff.

NHS centres are typically based in IM&T departments and can have up to 30 people providing support for those implementing new IT systems or delivering training in general IT skills.

CfH says the aim of the Training Centre Accreditation project is to create a coordinated approach to accreditation against specific standards, in order to drive up the quality of training over the short and long term.

The questionnaire includes questions on how NHS IT training departments currently work, how they are staffed and what training they provide. The questionnaire should take between five and ten minutes to complete.

CfH says NHS IT training departments that respond to the questionnaire will simplify their registration for accreditation once the scheme is in place.
