European RFID specialist Wavetrend Technologies has signed a deal with the newly built Ashdod Medical Centre in Southern Israel, to instal active RFID ports across the building to monitor movements of patients and assets.

Working in partnership with Isreali system integration company, Ardan Control Tech, Wavetrend will install an infrastructure of active RFID for asset and personnel tracking software.

A Wavetrend spokesperson told E-Health Europe: “Ashdod Medical Center required full RFID coverage for all six operational floors of its facility in the interest of achieving the best possible monitoring of equipment, personnel and high-risk patients.”

Readers will be strategically positioned throughout the hospital, and with different tags placed across the site, designed to track multiple assets.

The spokesperson added: “The real-time tracking capabilities that the system offers will allow the hospital to locate critical equipment and personnel in the event of an emergency, and also monitor the whereabouts of high-risk patients in real time so that medical staff can react to an alert immediately.”

Ardan will be configuring the software to ensure it integrates with other hospital software applications.

Medical staff will be able to access information from any computer within the facility based on predetermined authorisation levels.

“A fast paced, high-stakes setting like the Ashdod Medical Center is a perfect example the positive impact active RFID can have in providing meaningful, real-time information that results in more effective split-second decision making,” said Saleem Miyan, CEO of Wavetrend.

Moshe Ranz CEO, of Ardan Control Tech, added: “It is gratifying to know that our products are helping to ensure that the citizens of Ashdod receive the highest quality healthcare.

“As a systems integrator, we look for partners who provide best-in-class technology and equipment. Given their industry-leading experience and expertise, Wavetrend was the clear choice to provide the active RFID infrastructure required for this installation.”

Once deployed, the RFID system will provide the centre with real-time control that is vital to the centre’s goal of ensuring that skilled medical personnel and equipment can be located when they are needed most, so that their patients always receive the utmost in care.

A spokesperson for the centre, said: “The measures being taken by Ashdod Medical Center are designed to greatly reduce emergency response times and ultimately save lives. The healthcare industry today faces increasing financial pressures, an ongoing need for improved use of staff time, higher standards for patient and staff safety, and focus on improved patient outcomes.

“Adopting active RFID can provide substantial benefits in improving operating efficiencies and deliver a significant return on investment.”
